This holds true in any kind of workplace. Will employee X receive preference for a promotion over employee Z if they are romantically involved with manager Y? Has worker A experienced coercion to form a bond with manager B in order to maintain employment?

Because of this, the majority of organizations have stringent regulations regarding relationships between coworkers in situations when there is an imbalance of power. Failure to take action to prevent potential abuses of power would be a violation of the duty that employers have to create a safe workplace.
